I have a Spotify playlist full of music albums I need to listen to. Right now the duration of this playlist is 70 hours!!! My goal is to listen to one album every week. I decided to give the new 5S0S album a chance this week and I am obsessed. I was introduced to the band back in the day when they opened for One Direction. RIP 1D ://
They were my comfort artist during the pandemic as soon as they released their album CALM. No shame (pun intended) I played this album every day so it was no surprise that they were my 2020 Spotify top artist.
Every song in 5S0S5 is a masterpiece. I think I love this album because the other band members are also showing their vocal abilities. Prior to the release of 5SOS5, Luke Hemmings was the lead vocalist but with their latest album the other band members also shine vocally.
I honestly love all the songs but sharing my current favourite songs from the album.
My first listen, I was obsessed with “You Don’t Go To Parties” because of Calum’s verse and the lyrics talking about long lost love that can never be rekindled because of falling out. It took me a while to get into “Bad Omens” but now I am obsessed. It is a reminder to always take note of the red flags in toxic relationships and act upon them. The live version at Royal Albert Hall is so good! The choir, the instrument and the last verse when they sing “we jump back in bed, that’s what you do when you love somebody!!!” This is my current favourite.
“Haze” took me by surprise and “Caramel” and “Carousel” are on repeat. As I prepare for the October marathon, these songs have kept me company as I am blown away by the instrumentals in each song as well as their lyrical ability. “Tears” as the closing track had me in tears. I love all the 19 tracks, even tracks like “Easy For You” and “Take My Hand – Joshua Tree Version” that took me a while to get into are slowly becoming a favourite.
Highly recommend this album if you love 5SOS. I was hesitant because it has 19 songs but it is so worth it! I truly love every song! I am sad that the band is slowly departing from their pop punk sound but this album is proof that their new sound works for them!
