I spent my April rereading The Hunger Games trilogy and remembered how much I loved this trilogy. Each year, the Capitol forces each of the twelve districts to send one boy and one girl to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a televised fight to death competition.
I would have to say that my ranking is still the same. Catching Fire is the best book followed by The Hunger Games. I think Mockingjay is still my least favorite. I love the last book but it was a little bit confusing keeping track of which district they were in because they kept moving from district to district. The best movie is Catching Fire because of the suspense and the games. All the challenges were so exciting and it was great seeing the past winners from earlier games. The Tick Tock scene is memorable and unforgettable!
It was so interesting watching the movie immediately after reading the books. I noticed major differences between the movie and book. The meaning of the mockingjay pin that Katnis wears really bothered me. In the books, the mayor’s daughter, Madge Undersee, gives Katniss the pin but in the movie Katniss purchases the pin from an old lady. Madge’s absence really bothered me because she is a significant book character. The origin of the mockingjay pin is explained as Madge’s aunt was part of The Hunger Games. The same year as Haymitch Abernathy. The mockingjay pin became an important symbol during the rebellion. Without Madge, there would be no mockingjay pin.
I decided to also read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes after the movie trailer was released. This book is a prequel to The Hunger Games and focuses on Coriolanus Snow before the games with Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. I cannot wait to watch the movie and compare book vs movie!
