Yesterday I finally tried to do a HIIT class for the first time and I couldn’t feel my legs this morning. For this reason, I had to push my long run for next week. I consider myself a recreational runner but if I am being honest I know nothing about the gym!! Everything just feels so intimidating and confusing. What is TRX Training and why did my anxiety think that the strap would break and I would instantly fall down in front of everyone? As a beginner, my form was terrible, found everything challenging to keep up and kept panting every single second ๐
This HIIT class was a new world for me and thought it would be a great idea to now share some free at home workouts you can do. I love these workouts because they are FREE (huge selling point) and you barely need any equipment.
Fitbit Classes*
I currently own a Fitbit Charge 5 and I have a love hate relationship with this smartwatch. I should explain that Fitbit technically offers some free workout classes if you already own their smartwatches. Once your app synchronises with the watch, the app gives you a library full of workout classes. The free classes are limited as you must pay for Fitbit premium to see the full collection of workout classes. I would recommend Fitbitโs Afrobeats dance classes and the pilates barre classes!
If you do not own a Fitbit smartwatch, worry not! Youtube has lots of free workout videos that I would recommend. These videos range from 10-45 minutes so there is everything for everyone. Trust me!
Les Mills
If you are looking for a challenging cardio workout, this 30 minute session by Les Mills with Nina Dobrev is the one! I think this is the most challenging HIIT workout experience I have ever done. My heart was pumping and the music choice was impeccable. I love that this particular Les Mills 30-minute cardio workout requires no equipment. The trainers were also so motivating and still confused how they were able to speak throughout the session.
Pilates by Heather Robertson
If you enjoy pilates, I recommend this particular workout video by Heather Robertson. I have tried several online pilates videos and they tend to repeat the moves which I find pretty boring. I love that Heatherโs video has no repeats and really helps with your core. If you do long distance running, I would recommend this workout as part of your post recovery plan. Heather also has several workout programs for free. I love how she believes that fitness should be accessible to people around the world for free without the financial stress of paying for a program or personal trainer. Seriously, how amazing is that?!
Nike Workouts on Netflix*
I used the Nike Run Club for my marathon training plans and tried to fit in some strength training workouts through the Nike Training Club app. Nike Training Club is free and they do have some great programs that can meet your fitness goals. I did try the Ignite & Inspire with Kirsty Godso but never actually finished the program. ๐
It’s okay, I hope to finish it one of these days. Some Nike workouts are now available on Netflix as well. This is technically not free as you must have a Netflix membership to access the workouts. I would recommend downloading the app and choosing a program that aligns with your goals. The workouts vary from vinyasa, yoga, HIIT, bootcamp with Megan Thee Stallion! So many amazing great options!
New Fitness Era
I have also decided to try a new fitness challenge for the summer. After I finish the Nairobi City Marathon next week, I hope to start the Sydney Cummings Summertime Fine 2023 Challenge. I love it when my fitness goals are time specific so this would be a great way for me to transform my body in 12 weeks. I hope to share a detailed blog review sharing my experience. I have completely forgotten my Youtube channel so I might even do video reviews to accompany my blogpost.
My last fitness challenge was during covid and like everyone else I did the Chloe Ting challenge. I know there are conflicting results/opinions regarding her programs out there but for me it worked! This was me one week into the program!
One thing I have learnt with my half marathon training is that accountability is key when it comes to accomplishing your fitness goals. You all now know my plan for the next three months so it would be awkward for both of us if I don’t have any updates regarding Sydneyโs fitness challenge. I really want to invest and dedicate my time to fitness these coming months because hot girl summer!! ๐คช
