I have discovered so many great bands the past year while preparing for the marathon that deserve to be celebrated and known. Below are the bands that should be on your radar.
Messgram
Messgram is a hardcore band based based in Seoul, South Korea. I was drawn to this band after watching their Youtube cover of one of my favourite metalcore songs of all time. The five-piece led by Jiyoung, performed a beautiful rendition of “Pittsburgh” by The Amity Affliction. It was their beautiful cover that led me to listen to their debut album. Messgram has also performed other mesmerizing hardcore covers of popular Bring Me The Horizon songs such as “Drown” “Mother Tongue” and “Avalanche” on their Youtube page.
The band released a debut album titled Cheers For The Failures with “Karma” as the lead single. With their debut album, the 5 piece balances between metalcore and pop punk music allowing for different types of fans to be drawn into Messgram.
If you are looking for a Korean metalcore band, Messgram is the band for you!
Sea Girls
If you are looking for an indie rock band to listen to, Sea Girls is your new favourite band. Sea Girls is an indie rock band based in London with sing-along tunes. The four-piece is currently signed to Polydor Records, a German-British rock label.
Sea Girls released my favourite indie rock single last summer. Their single “Damage Done” made me fall in love with the band and I was immediately drawn to their other songs. “Damage Done” is about young love with lyrics such as “ you’re not the inspiration /you’re not the reason for this song.” “Violet” will uplift your mood and their popular single “All I Want To Hear You Say” is undeniably their unforgettable track.
Bloxx
Bloxx is an indie pop band from the United Kingdom fronted by Fee Booth. To tease their debut album, the three-piece released an infectious indie pop single titled “Coming Up Short.” I promise you that you will love Fee Booth’s voice in the chorus of “Coming Up Short.” Another song to check out by Bloxx is “Sea Blue,” a brilliant track and an indie banger.
Since the band has toured with big indie rock bands like Two Door Cinema Club and The Wombats, Bloxx should be a band to watch and claim your ~i knew them before they were famous~ ticket!
All I have to say about Bloxx is the next big indie pop band!
Glacier Veins
For those looking for that dreamy pop punk and shoegaze sound, Glacier Veins is the band for you! Based in Portland, Oregon Glacier Veins describes their music as “a soothing blend of dream-pop with alternative roots.”
Glacier Veins released their debut album, The World You Want to See, on February 28th, 2020. The four-piece fronted by Malia Endres released “Everything Glows” to support their debut album. This song will help you have a positive mindset: Malia’s calm vocals as she motivates you to never give up on your goals and dreams. This positive mindset is in the lyrics “when you choose / to give yourself a little time / to just breathe in and feel alive / you can prove/you’ve got all the light you’d ever need.”
Glacier Veins will make you optimistic about the future and your goals.
Picturesque
Picturesque is a post-hardcore band from Lexington, Kentucky. Picturesque’s music will appeal to anyone who loves the pop melody sound fused with angsty punk. The quartet released their latest album Do You Feel O.K? on April 24th 2020 under Equal Vision Records. I discovered this album after listening to their song, OK, and decided to check out this band. OK? is my favourite with its catchy chorus and reminds me of Kellin Quinn’s voice. If you enjoyed the album Madness by Sleeping with Sirens, Picturesque should be a band to watch in 2023.
