I cannot begin this post without expressing my gratitude for good health! Pausing to reflect, I am deeply appreciative of finally having the energy to write on my blog after undergoing surgery. As always, my monthly camera roll serves to highlight my month through photographs, but lately, it’s been filled with images of medicine I’m supposed to take and dates of my medical appointments. Nevertheless, below are pictures from my camera roll!
Health
I have not been feeling my best health-wise and I had to undergo surgery, but I am very thankful that it went well, and I hope to be fully healed by the end of the month! I still have surgery follow-up sessions and I’m hoping for good news. Interestingly, I was not anxious during the surgery, which is very unlike me because I’m extremely anxious about my health. I just wanted to get it done and go home! Strangely, I thought the anaesthesia wouldn’t work on me – boy, was I wrong! I was out for almost three hours and woke up in a completely different room with bright overhead lights, thinking the Lord had taken me!
Three weeks later, my surgical scars have healed, and I am now able to walk! The human body fascinates me because I still cannot believe that this same body was able to prepare for and run a half marathon last year in Cape Town with no issues, yet after my surgery, I could barely walk or stand for a minute.
My biggest regret is that I was supposed to bring thank-you cards for all my doctors and nurses but completely forgot! I already shared this on my Instagram stories, but I am here to remind you that it’s crucial to be your own medical advocate! Never hesitate to tell your doctor what you’re going through to help determine the best treatment for you – it could save your life! If anything, I’m reminded of how passionate I am about health and wellness and will always strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
That being said, I have to take a break from running content until I fully recover in 6-8 weeks. I think my next marathon will be after September! (RIP Sydney Marathon)! For now, it’ll be light workouts for me, like daily walks, which I don’t mind because I enjoy walking!
For now, you can do this workout on my behalf because I’m unable to do any lower-body exercises! I can’t wait to get back into running!
2024 Goodreads Reading Goal
This is a major yikes! I am so behind on my reading goal, but it’s okay! I am going to go all out this month to ensure I’m back on track to read 52 books by the end of the year. I was so ambitious that I even brought my iPad to the surgical ward, thinking I would be able to read my book. The nurse told me that wouldn’t be needed, and she was right! I had no energy to do anything other than sleep! I’m currently reading The Stranger by Albert Camus, apparently one of the most widely read novels in the world! I also owe you guys several book reviews, so be on the lookout for those!
Oprah’s Talk on Weight Loss Drugs
Speaking of health and wellness, I recommend watching this talk by Oprah on Hulu regarding weight loss drugs and the rise of Ozempic. I found it incredibly interesting, especially because obesity should be considered a disease! I would highly recommend it if you’re interested in public health and the shift we should be taking when addressing obesity – words do matter!
Monk
I rewatched Monk for the billionth time because it became available on Netflix and I have no regrets! I absolutely love this show, and it really helps lighten my mood. I think Monk is the best crime-comedy show to ever exist! I love that I was able to remember some episodes, but also the suspense in some episodes had me on my toes, and oh my, the humour still had me laughing. I have to say, my absolute favorite episode is Mr. Monk Goes to the Theatre – Season 2 Episode 6! I have never laughed that much while watching a crime show. If you love Monk, I would also recommend watching Psych and White Collar!
Okay, but one thing I noticed is that they kept recycling a certain actress in several episodes to play different characters. This really bothered me, and upon checking, it turns out the actress is Tony Shalhoub’s wife – HA!! I love some nepotism! Tony is also the producer of the show and the actor who plays Adrian Monk.
The Bachelor Season 28 – Joey’s Season
This season of The Bachelor kept me company. This has got to be my favorite season ever. I cannot stop saying, “peep the nails, peep the dress, peep everything!” I think Joey has got to be one of the best Bachelor leads; he is so dreamy and kind! I never root for anyone when I watch The Bachelor but I was Team Kelsey after their one-on-one date in Malta!
New Music from Olivia Rodrigo and Pvris
To help with my days at the hospital, I created a music playlist – DUH! I have to say the latest PVRIS song, Burn the Witch, kept me company. I think it’s so good and I think Lynn Gunn never disappoints! I am such a PVRIS fan for life. I also started listening to this band called Lovejoy and I love this song titled Call Me What You Like the most. Lovejoy reminds me of the band Wallows because they both have the same alt rock vibes! So good! Also Olivia Rodrigo released an extended version of Guts and I am obsessed with So American (I think it’s the best one)! It is so catchy and wow that bridge!!! Are you kidding me? That has to be the highlight of the song! The parallel with the opening song being All-American Bitch? Love it!
Away Large Carry On Review Coming Soon
I also checked into the hospital with my Away large carry-on and the battery did not work!! This was honestly a little bit disappointing because I think I have used the battery only once!!! I am very confused about how to move forward because Away has since stopped offering battery packs with their latest suitcases and I don’t think I can get a replacement battery anytime soon. I will share my detailed review of the suitcase soon and if it’s worth the purchase after having it for almost 3 years.
Soup Recipes
I was advised to incorporate more soup in my diet so I will be doing that. I have had this cookbook for a year and my plan is to finally try and recreate the vegetarian soup and salad recipes! I cannot wait to share more delicious recipes with you all!
Outdoor Voices Shutting Down?
Also what is going on with Outdoor Voices? I woke up from surgery and the first thing I learnt was that Outdoor Voices is shutting down all their physical stores and they might be going bankrupt? This tote bag might now be a vintage product if they fully shut down!
Carrefour Kenya Discount
The last thing from me is to share a plug to help with your shopping so you can save on coins. If you have a Mastercard debit card (DTB or I&M), the Carrefour Kenya App has a 1,000 KES discount if you spend more than 5,000 KES on your shopping. So good and helpful if you do bulky shopping!
See you all next Sunday, assuming my follow-up surgery appointment goes well!🤞🏿
