I enjoy reading and hope to convince everyone around me to pick up a book and start reading too. This was a great year for me reading wise. I tried to read one book every week. I also caved in and finally joined TikTok and it seems that my for you page is basically #BookTok! I thought I would summarise all the great books that I read and loved this year. Some books did nothing for me and would share my reasons. Let’s get into it.
I would recommend reading the post about books that I loved in 2021 first.
Books I Disliked in 2022 ⭐⭐
Long story short, I hated these books and wanted to not finish them but I convinced myself to persevere. I got all the recommendations from TikTok and they were all mediocre to be honest. TikTok is the enemy here!
It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover
I disliked this book with a passion. I think I am a hater because everyone on the clock app seems to love it but I personally disliked it. The dialogue and writing is not ideal, the terrible Finding Nemo references bored me to death and the names of the characters worsened my interest in the book. The main character is called Lily Blossom Bloom and she works at a floral shop. Really? Is that the best you could come up with Miss Colleen? This was simply a huge NO for me!
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reed
I was bored of my mind. I only kept reading this book to figure out why Evelyn chose Monique to interview her. Meh, I was so bored and disappointed throughout the novel. I hated the narration and writing style and the ending was predictable. I strongly had a feeling that there was a family connection between Evelyn and Monique. I also think it’s because I also have no interest in Hollywood and that glamour.
People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry
Another recommendation I picked because of TikTok. I never learned my lesson because honestly I hated the slow pace of this book and everything was just dull and felt no connection with the characters. I thought this was so boring! I am very confused by the Emily Henry hype.
Royal Holiday by Jasmine Guillory
This one hurts because I started reading romance novels because of Jasmine but I read this and was confused. I feel like with Jasmine’s book you either love or hate them and there is no in between. This was plain boring and the chemistry was so rushed. This book also has way older characters and maybe that’s why I never loved it? Would never ever recommend it!!!
The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris
Another major disappointment for me. I really wanted to love it but it failed to impress me. I hated it because the book was trying so hard to be political and woke by discussing important topics. The POVs were so confusing, I could not stand Nella making this not enjoyable for me at all. The topics and conversations felt like Black Twitter. It was a huge no for me. So overhyped and I hated it! I am so thankful for the app libby because I wanted to purchase the physical version after seeing it at the airport. I dodged a bullet.
